Use Your Stones Longer. Keep Them Stable Until the End.
A good whetstone should not have to be retired simply because it has become thinner or shorter through years of sharpening.
The NANIWA Stainless Steel Adjustable Whetstone Holder is designed to securely support a wide range of sharpening stones — including stones that have already seen considerable use.
One of its most practical advantages is its low-profile rubber gripping lips. Compared with many conventional stone holders with taller end supports, this design allows even relatively thin stones to remain accessible for sharpening, helping you continue using valuable whetstones further into their usable life.
For professional sharpeners and serious enthusiasts, that matters. A quality whetstone is not disposable simply because it has become thin.
Made for Stones That Don't Stay New Forever
Sharpening stones naturally become thinner with repeated use and flattening.
Eventually, conventional holders can become inconvenient: the retaining lips begin to interfere with the sharpening stroke, even though useful stone material still remains.
The NANIWA holder addresses this with low-profile retaining sections and an adjustable three-support design, securely supporting stones down to approximately 5mm minimum thickness, according to the product specification.
This means less wasted stone — particularly valuable when working with premium synthetic stones or carefully selected natural whetstones.
Accommodates Shorter Stones, Too
Another important advantage is its wide adjustment range.
The stainless-steel adjustment system allows the holder to close down to accommodate stones from approximately 136mm to 218mm in length.
This makes it useful not only for standard full-size bench stones, but also for shorter stones that many conventional holders may struggle to secure effectively.
For sharpeners who use a variety of stones — or who continue using stones as they gradually wear down — this flexibility can make a meaningful difference.
Stable Sharpening Means Better Control
A stone that moves while sharpening is more than an inconvenience.
It interrupts pressure control, makes consistent sharpening more difficult, and can become particularly frustrating during precise thinning, bevel correction, or single-bevel knife work.
The wide rubber supports grip the stone firmly while the substantial base helps keep the sharpening setup stable and secure.
The result is simple:
Less movement. Better control. More attention on the blade.
Built for a Wet Sharpening Environment
The holder uses stainless-steel components together with TPR and PP materials, making it well suited to regular whetstone use.
Stainless steel provides excellent corrosion resistance, but it should not be considered completely rust-proof. After sharpening, rinse or wipe away sharpening residue and dry the holder thoroughly rather than leaving it wet for prolonged periods.
Why YAMANI Recommends It
From a sharpening perspective, one of the most valuable features of this holder is not simply how well it holds a new stone.
It is how long it allows you to keep using a good stone.
As whetstones become thinner through sharpening and repeated flattening, their performance does not suddenly disappear. A well-designed holder should therefore accommodate the stone throughout as much of its practical working life as possible.
Its low-profile supports, broad adjustment range, stable rubber base and stainless-steel construction make this a particularly practical choice for sharpeners who use their stones seriously rather than replacing them unnecessarily.
A stone holder should not determine when your whetstone's life is over.
